Algebraic stacks are a fundamental tool in algebraic geometry; for instance, they naturally appear in the study of moduli problems. The seminar will consist in a brief introduction to this topic, with a view towards DT theory. After reviewing some basics of the theory of algebraic stacks, we will consider two special examples, namely the moduli stack of coherent sheaves on a projective scheme and the stack of representations of a quiver. These examples will be important in the subsequent seminars.
