Abstract: 

We review divergence conforming finite element discretizations for Stokes and coupled Darcy-Stokes flows. We show that they are strongly conservative and admit balanced mean square error estimates. On nested meshes, the divergence free subspaces are nested as well. This gives rise to efficient multigrid methods, which implicitly act on the divergence free functions. We discuss their analysis and present numerical results.
