Abstract:

Anyons are effective particles that can arise in quantum systems confined to lower dimensions. In contrast to usual identical particles, i.e., bosons and fermions, understanding the basic properties of an ideal gas of anyons in the plane is very difficult because they are topologically intertwined with a complicated many-body interaction. I plan to review the recent progress on this problem based on rigorous mathematical analysis with the anyons modeled as bosons with attached magnetic flux. The talk will be based on work in collaborations with M. Correggi, R. Duboscq, S. Larson, N. Rougerie, R. Seiringer, and J. P. Solovej.
