Abstract:
After a short reminder of the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer index theorem, I will explain an index theorem that is in many ways analogous, but applies to hyperbolic operators instead of elliptic ones. In particular it can deal with the Dirac operator on a space-time with compact spacelike part. If there is time I will discuss some applications in physics and the relation to the chiral anomaly (Joint work with C. Baer)
