Abstract:

Hilbert C*-modules provide a natural generalization of the notion of Hilbert space, where the scalars are taken to be elements in a C*-algebras.
They play a central role in non-commutative geometry, where they can be seen as the analogue of sections of vector bundles over C*-algebras.
Moreover they are crucial in the formulation of Kasparov KK-theory and of the concept of Morita equivalence.
In this talk, I will present the definition of Hilbert C*-modules, show some basic examples and then discuss important classes of operators of them, like bounded operators, adjointable operators and compact operators.

This seminar is part of the AJS series of seminars.
