Abstract:

The term "digital twin" is widely used; it has assumed different meanings within the years, and several declinations depending on its applications. However, how can this concept be interpreted in practice? One possible example is GRAPE (GRAph Parallel Environment), a fault simulator based on graph theory. Employing this tool, the virtual counterpart of complex interconnected systems, such as industrial plants, can be implemented. Moreover, it can provide a whole diagnosis of the system, before and after the perturbation. Finally, one application of GRAPE on the dynamic quantification of the damage experienced by passenger ships will be briefly presented.
