Abstract:

Topological recursion can be thought as an algorithm that generates recursively solutions of certain enumerative geometric problems. It does arise from matrix models, although it does not necessarily need one to be run. On the other hand, it provides a system of cohomology classes on the moduli spaces of curves (often a cohomological field theory). It certainly connects with integrable hierarchies although, despite several results and conjectures, the general theory remains open. We will review and connect some recent results in the field, especially about Hurwitz theory and Masur-Veech volumes.
