Essential Bio:

After discussing my bachelor’s thesis in the field of cryptography (linear and differential cryptanalysis of Data Encryption like ciphers), I got my master’s degree in Mathematics in 2016 at Università degli Studi di Firenze on energy-preserving methods for the numerical conservation of multiple invariants Hamiltonian problems. Then, I had a seven-months experience at Accenture Security, Milano, working on a project to update the identity management infrastructure of the Monte dei Paschi di Siena bank, before re-entering the University of Florence as a one-year Research Fellow on the topic of my master’s thesis. I spent my last three years always there as a PhD student, submitting a thesis on adaptive regularisation methods for nonconvex optimisation with machine learning applications. On the last year of my PhD I visited the University of Oxford during the whole period of the Hilary Term, for collaboration and fruitful discussion on stochastic complexity analysis. I am currently a Research Associate at SISSA within the Fincantieri group. I have great expectations on that, since cruise ships have always been my passion and this project finally gives me a chance to link the research on machine learning and numerical optimisation with the simulation of real cruise ship shape designs. More in depth, the project I am joining is about mathematical modelling and numerical simulation for the design of innovative hydrodynamic shapes for immersed parts of cruise ships to reduce resistance, noise, vibration and consumption. Computational offline-online reduction strategies will be developed, as well as efficient geometrical shape parametrisation techniques. In my spare time I am an opera critic, a lifeguard and a climber.
