Abstract:
In this seminar, I will lay down the axioms for a mathematical model of quantum mechanics, following the original approach by P.A.M. Dirac. I will point out what the advantages and flaws of this approach are. I will then illustrate some characteristic features of quantum systems (as e.g. the uncertainty principle and the existence of bound states) through examples, focusing mainly on the quantum harmonic oscillator.
This seminar is part of the AJS series of seminars.
